Fields of Activity
The scientific research at our chair is divided into three areas of work. Temporary projects are carried out in all areas of work, mostly financed by third party funds. The current and recently completed projects are funded by the European Commission, the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi). Among the industrial partners are amongst others Audi AG, Siemens AG and the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft.
The first field of activity, video signal processing and transmission, deals with problems and applications of video recordings. Particularly noteworthy in this area is video coding, image analysis and image and video reconstruction.
In the second field of audio signal processing, model and data based algorithms for acoustic human / machine interaction and for analysis and reproduction of real and virtual acoustic scenes are explored. This also includes their diverse applications, for example for telecommunications and telepresence, hearing aids, smart homes, human / robot communication or immersive multimedia environments.
In machine learning and deep learning, the focus is on both fundamental and applied research. Applications range from automated driving, computer vision and medical image analysis to signal processing.
We regularly report on the results in numerous publications in books and journals and at academic conferences. Protected rights are also registered for selected results. The staff members of the chair receive numerous awards from scientific associations and other institutions.
