Curriculum Vitae

Jürgen Seiler studied Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Information Technology at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) and graduated with distinction in 2006. During this time, he was a scholarship holder of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation and received several awards for his academic achievements. From 2007 to 2011 he was a research assistant at the Chair of Multimedia Communication and Signal Processing (LMS) at FAU and he received his PhD with honors in 2011 for his thesis “Signal Extrapolation Using Sparse Representations and its Applications in Video Communication”. For his PhD thesis he received the PhD award of the STAEDTLER Foundation and the sponsorship award of the Informationstechnische Gesellschaft im VDE (ITG). Since 2011, he has been Akademischer Rat, or respectively Akademischer Oberrat, at LMS, and he habilitated in information technology in 2018 with his habilitation thesis “Reconstruction, Enhancement, and Efficient Processing of Signals using Appropriate Representations”. In the same year, he was appointed as a Privatdozent at FAU in Information Technology.

From 2012-2016 he was German representative in the Management Committee of the EU COST Action IC1105 3D-ConTourNet – “3D Content Creation, Coding and Transmission over Future Media Networks” and in this context coordinator for Short-Term Scientific Missions. In 2016 he was appointed visiting professor at the Leopold-Franzens-University Innsbruck. Since 2024 he serves as Associate Editor for Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology.

Jürgen Seiler is author, or co-author, of more than 120 journal and conference publications, several of which have received best paper awards. He is a senior member of the IEEE. His research interests include image and video capture systems, video coding, and signal processing. In this, he uses both traditional methods and machine learning methods.
