From Sept. 22 to Oct. 4, 2024, this year’s Ferienakademie took place in the Sarntal Valley in South Tyrol and thereby celebrates its 40th anniversary. Together with the Chair of Media Technology at TU Munich and the Institute for Signal Processing and Systems Theory at the University of Stuttgart, the LMS offered a course on “Deep Learning in Image and Video Processing”.

The participants’ high level of motivation and expertise made for a very instructive and interactive exchange of ideas during the presentations. Both the basics of deep learning in image and video signal processing as well as advanced applications and concepts were covered. In order to apply the concepts learned, the course was supported by the Munich-based startup “Olive Robotics”. The participants were given a detailed insight into the programming of robots and had the opportunity to implement their own robotics projects. In groups, the robots learned how to react to hand gestures, avoid obstacles and follow people.

In addition to the academy part, the vacation part is also an integral part of Ferienakademie (engl. vacation academy). With hikes, excellent food, evening events and a trip to Bolzano, the well-being of the participants has thus also been taken care of.
